The ANDRITZ L1 basic automation for electromechanical presses provides the foundational automation layer for mechanical presses equipped with electric motor drives. The system includes a fully programmed Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and an HMI Runtime environment, delivering the essential control, safety interlock, and operator interface functions required for safe and reliable press operation.

The L1 automation level covers the fundamental press control functions: motor start/stop sequencing, stroke control, safety circuit integration, fault monitoring, and operator HMI for press status, mode selection, and diagnostic information. The electric motor drive configuration—as opposed to purely mechanical or hydraulic drive—requires dedicated PLC logic for motor control integration and drive coordination.

Developed by ANDRITZ Kaiser GmbH, a specialist in metalforming automation, the L1 electromechanical press automation is supplied as standard on new press deliveries and is also available as a retrofit package for existing mechanical presses that require control system modernization—extending the productive life of legacy equipment with current PLC and HMI technology.
